Remembering Brian

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our wonderful community volunteer, Be One Homes tenant, and longstanding friend, Brian Trainer.

Brian’s connection with our community spanned over 15 years. From the very beginning, he gave his time, energy, and heart without hesitation. He was the driving force behind the “On Your Own Club” – a weekly coffee morning and trips out for people seeking companionship and connection.

What started as Brian’s idea grew into something truly special, and it continues to bring people together to this day. That is his legacy in action.

In later years, Brian became a much-loved and familiar face at the Fusion Centre.

His warmth, commitment, and genuine care for others continued to inspire everyone around him. The Centre’s Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service reflects the very spirit Brian embodied – and he played a meaningful part in that journey.

Brian was also a passionate advocate for housing and community causes. He took part in the Homes for Britain campaign, walking to Manchester and travelling to London to ensure voices were heard. He visited the Town Hall and the Mayor’s Parlour, and even appeared on ITV News – never seeking recognition for himself, but always championing the people and causes that mattered.

He supported countless community events through the Big Local programme and was proudly recognised at our Star of the Community Awards – an honour he truly deserved.

Brian was a true community giant. One of those rare people who made everyone feel seen, valued, and less alone. His absence will be deeply felt, and the gap he leaves cannot be filled.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
