Most of us want the same basic things from where we live, to feel safe, to be treated with respect, and to feel at home.
Pride Month offers an opportunity to reflect on these shared expectations and on the kind of communities we’re working to create; places where people can be themselves without fear of discrimination or exclusion.
This connects to one of the four key objectives in our new Business Plan 2026 – 2031: Promoting an inclusive, diverse culture where everyone is accountable and respected. This isn’t something separate from our day-to-day work, but part of how we deliver our services, how we support our customers, and how we work together as colleagues.
At Be One Homes, our role is to support inclusive, respectful communities in a practical and consistent way through the homes we provide and the services we deliver. Our Business Plan sets out what we’ll do to keep listening carefully to our customers, better understand their experiences, and use what we learn to improve.
A key part of this is making sure our services are fair, accessible and work for everyone. That includes:
- listening to people’s experiences so we understand both what works and what needs to change
- working with customers to shape services so they reflect real needs across our communities
- providing additional support where it’s needed, so everyone has a fair opportunity to access our services
- addressing discrimination, harassment and exclusion clearly and consistently
- being open about our progress and taking accountability for improving outcomes
This is not just about what we say or moments in the calendar. It’s about how we act day to day, in how we treat people, how we respond when things go wrong, and how we make sure everyone feels they belong in their neighbourhood. Our EDI Strategy 2025–2028 talks about how we make inclusive principles and practices part of everything we do.
Pride Month shines a light on the experiences of LGBTQ+ communities, but the principle behind it is wider. It’s about recognising the importance of creating communities where nobody has to choose between being themselves and feeling safe where they live.
As we deliver our five-year plan, we’ll keep working with our customers and colleagues to build neighbourhoods where people are treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and where accountability and inclusion are part of how we operate every day.
