Here’s to you, Ebony

Over the past four and a half months, Ebony’s become a valued member of our Bolton UCAN Centre team as part of her university placement. She’s supported residents, got stuck into community activities, and built meaningful relationships with customers in her own unique way.

Here’s what Ebony had to say about her experience:

“Over the last four and a half months, I have had the privilege of completing my final placement with Be One Homes, and it has truly been a breath of fresh air.

“Being neurodiverse can sometimes be challenging, especially when starting new things and stepping outside of my comfort zone. When I first asked about completing my placement, I was extremely nervous after a previous experience that affected my confidence.

“From the very beginning, the support, kindness, and encouragement I received from Rosanne and Vanessa helped me feel welcomed, valued, and safe. Thanks to their guidance, I have had a positive and beautiful experience at Be One Homes, and I am incredibly proud of how far I have come both personally and professionally.

“Throughout my placement, I have had the opportunity to build my dissertation by collecting data from staff and residents, supporting the School Hill coffee mornings, creating meaningful relationships with residents, attending valuable training sessions, and listening to the inspirational talk from Richard McCann. I have also had the privilege of supporting the Bolton UCAN Centre and its service users.

“These experiences have helped me develop professional skills, increase my self-confidence, expand my knowledge, and grow in ways I never expected. Most importantly, I have felt genuinely supported and encouraged every step of the way.

“As both a tenant of Be One Homes and a student completing my placement, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the entire team at the Bolton UCAN Centre.

“Without this support and placement opportunity, graduating would not have felt achievable. This experience has reminded me that with the right support, understanding, and encouragement, growth and confidence are truly possible.

“Here’s to Graduation 2026 - I cannot wait to receive my degree in July! Thank you all so much."
