Supported Housing Week 2026: The difference the right support can make

This week marks the first ever Supported Housing Week (19 – 23 October), led by the National Housing Federation to raise awareness of the vital role supported housing plays in helping people live safely, independently and with confidence.

Supported housing is about more than providing a home. It combines safe, affordable housing with tailored support to help people overcome challenges, build resilience and move forward with their lives.

At Be One Homes, we support people facing a wide range of circumstances, including homelessness, mental health challenges and domestic abuse. Every journey is different, but each story shows the difference the right support can make.

Rebuilding after homelessness

When Chris* became homeless following the breakdown of his relationship, he was facing an uncertain future. Living with anxiety, depression and substance misuse challenges, he was trying to rebuild his life while worrying about where he would live and how he would get back on his feet.

Working with our Resettlement Service, Chris secured a home, got help with his finances and settled into his tenancy. With stability and the right support around him, he was able to focus on what came next, completing training and securing employment.

Today, Chris is settled into his home, working and building a brighter future for himself.

Building confidence and improving wellbeing

When Sam* was referred to our Mental Health Support Service, poor mental health and isolation were having a significant impact on his day-to-day life. He felt trapped in accommodation that wasn’t meeting his needs and was concerned it could affect his recovery and wellbeing.

Working with our team and healthcare professionals, Sam moved into a home better suited to his needs and developed the skills and confidence to live more independently. He was also encouraged to get involved in local groups and activities, helping him reconnect with his community and build new relationships.

Over time, Sam has grown in confidence, gained greater independence and seen significant improvements in his wellbeing.

Finding safety and a fresh start

When Kelly* came to our Sanctuary Plus Service, she was pregnant, caring for her young son and living with the impact of domestic abuse and controlling behaviour. Feeling vulnerable and struggling with her mental health, she faced an uncertain future.

Working with our team and partner agencies, Kelly took steps to improve her safety, address financial concerns and get specialist support. Together, we secured a move to a new home in a different area before further risks could arise.

Today, Kelly and her son are settled in their new home, surrounded by family support and looking ahead with renewed confidence and hope for the future.

Why supported housing matters

Supported housing is about far more than providing a roof over someone’s head. It’s about creating safety, stability and opportunity when people need it most.

The stories shared here reflect the determination and strength shown by people facing difficult circumstances. They also highlight what can be achieved when housing providers, support services and partner organisations work together to help people move forward.

This Supported Housing Week, we’re celebrating the impact of supported housing and the colleagues and partners who make it possible. These stories show the lasting difference these services can make, not just for individuals and families, but for communities too. Supported housing helps people live independently, prevents homelessness and reduces pressure on public services.

That’s why we’re proud to support the National Housing Federation’s campaign to raise awareness of supported housing and the need to secure its future, so these services can continue changing lives for years to come.
