What to do if you’ve overpaid your rent

If your rent account is in credit, here’s how to request a refund, what details to provide, and the proof needed for safe payment processing.

Payment will be made by Bacs (Bankers’ Automated Clearing System) into a nominated bank account. 

Please note that this can take up to four weeks to process, so, in some cases, it may be better to adjust the payments made to us directly.

You must attach proof of the bank account details for the refund to be processed, and all proof must show the name of the bank account holder, the sort code, and the bank account number.

Acceptable forms of proof are:

If you’ve paid your rent and/or housing charges by Direct Debit in the last three months and you want the refund returning to that bank account, there’s no need to send in proof as we can use the bank account details we hold under the Direct Debit mandate.
